Students Make GSFS Research Introduction Videos with the Dean

To introduce research conducted at the GSFS, students who applied to the University of Tokyo On-Campus-Job (OCJ) Program 2024* have been creating videos with the Dean. In this series, the Dean visits laboratories at the GSFS and asks questions to students, researchers and professors about their research to introduce it to future students and researchers. In this project, students plan everything from concept development and filming to editing. The OCJ program provides members with an opportunity to experience the entire process and to use and enhance their skills for their careers.

3rd MODE Symposium 2024

https://mode.k.u-tokyo.ac.jp/

The Maritime and Ocean Digital Engineering Laboratory (MODE) is a social collaboration program founded by the University of Tokyo in 2022 to provide the latest information on model-based development (MBD), model-based system engineering (MBSE), maritime affairs and MODE activity reports at symposia.

For the 3rd MODE symposium held in October 2024, over 250 people—beyond the venue’s capacity—applied to attend the symposium, and the venue was bustling.

Dr. Takanao Uchida (Institute of Physical and Chemical Research; RIKEN), Dr. Miki Yamazaki (Hitachi High-Tech) and Prof. Yan Jin (University of Southern California) delivered keynote speeches. The MODE Lab activity report exhibition, six MBD/MBSE vendors and poster presentations received favorable responses. The panel discussion “Goals of Introducing Maritime and Ocean Digital Engineering,” facilitated by Dr. Hideyuki Ando (Monohakobi Technology Institute, Co., Ltd.), was also successful. The MODE session is definitely gathering attention and support from society.

Kashiwa Class Reunion and BBQ Party for New Students

On October 3, 2024, the UTokyo Alumni Association (UTAA) held a class reunion party at the Kashiwa Campus, with about 150 alumni—more than that in 2023—and professors attending. Mr. Hiroshi Miyazaki, the chair of the UTAA, facilitated the event, and attendees enjoyed conversations and desserts served buffet style after a greeting by Mr. Natsuo Eguchi, the vice-chairman, and a toast by Prof. Tomochika Tokunaga, the GSFS Dean.

On the same day, after the UTAA party, a BBQ party was held for new students. There were more than 700 participants. Despite the drizzle, the venue was filled with excitement and smiles. Soon, the rain stopped, and people had a good time socializing. Prof. Susumu Yoshizawa, the head of the BBQ Party Committee, said he hopes that this BBQ will be the first step in deepening friendship among the students and wished them a successful academic life.
