Digitalization of Water Environment Information

MIZUNO Katsunori, Associate Professor, Division of Environmental Studies

We aim for efficient analysis and acquisition of environmental information on and below the seabed, which is covered by vast and complex environments and has limited means of access. To realize them, various devices have been developed. The seminar will introduce these tools and outcomes of the field demonstration tests conducted from the coast to the deep sea.

Power Engineering x Agriculture = Control Ability + Zero-Emission Vegetables

BANDO Shigeru, Visiting Professor, Division of Transdisciplinary Science

The seminar reports a practical test of the demand response (a temporary reduction of power supply) at a plant factory in Miyakojima City, Okinawa. We designed a demand-response system for the light and heat sources and incorporated it into the factory's energy management system with a condition not to affect the growth of lettuce in the factory. This project represents a transdisciplinary study that integrates the fields of agriculture and power engineering. As a result, the research field, where the efficient energy supply for light and heat to improve vegetable qualities is one of the main research topics was one of the main research goals, provided a new topic: determining the threshold of temporary reduction of power supply without hindering the growth of plants.

New Design of Aging Control through Transdisciplinary Research

HISATSUNE Tatsuhiro, Associate Professor, Division of Bioscience

Social services for slowing down aging and extending a healthy lifetime to prepare for an ear of 100-year life are now needed. To provide sustainable services that fulfill the demands of society, we need to understand the mechanism of aging through the life science of aging and develop new technology integrating various fields. This seminar introduces projects to extend the healthy life of older people by improving their lifestyles.
