Composite Material Monitoring Technology for Future Aircraft Structures

Project Associate Professor Shu Minakuchi

In recent years, composites (fiber-reinforced plastics) have come to account for more than 50% of the structural weight of aircraft. In this talk, I will introduce the composite material technology with high productivity and light weight required for future aircraft, and the optical fiber measurement method to support its development.

Advances in instrumentation and information technology have made it possible to obtain large amounts of data at the molecular level. However, we have not been able to predict the properties of tissues or the behavior of individuals from these data. Therefore, we are working on the development of machine learning techniques to automatically estimate descriptive differential equations from data.

In order to increase competitiveness in the international market, it is important to think rationally about product design and technology transfer while taking cultural differences into account. In this lecture, the concepts of production culture theory will be introduced by taking up product design (cup noodle lids, automobiles) and technology transfer (machine tools, electronic devices) as case studies.
