Professor Hiroshi Okuda, Department of Human and Engineered Environmental Studies, was awarded the title of Fellow by The Japan Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (JSIAM). JSIAM is an academic society of applied mathematicians with more than 1,500 members. The title of Fellow is given to researchers who have made outstanding achievements in the field of applied mathematics as well as outstanding contributions to JSIAM. Professor Hiroshi Okuda was recommended by JSIAM Fellow Recommendation Committee and selected by the JSIAM board of directors.

Reason for awarding
The title of Fellow was awarded in recognition of the following achievements.

• Development of a parallel finite element analysis program FrontISTR¹⁾
• Implementation of element libraries that are nearly equivalent to major commercial structural analysis software such as ABAQUS and ANSYS, and comprehensive realization of key analysis functions including eigenvalue analysis, dynamic analysis, and impact analysis in FrontISTR
• Contributions to many users and the advancement of related industries including manufacturing by building a framework for utilizing FrontISTR, introducing it to the computer centers of 8 universities nationwide and the RIKEN supercomputer "Fugaku"²⁾, and making it open source
• JSIAM Achievement Award for "Development, publication, and industrial application of a parallel finite element analysis program FrontISTR"
• Contributions to JSIAM through committee activities
