Fish inhabit various waters. However, not all fish groups colonize freshwater habitats, such as rivers, ponds, and lakes. Why can some groups colonize freshwater while others cannot? The lecture introduces some of the mechanisms that have been elucidated through breeding experiments, metabolic studies, and genome analyses.

Mayumi Fukunaga Professor Division of Environmental Studies, Department of Socio-Cultural Environmental Studies

The lecture explores the history of humans and fish that have evolved into salmon and discusses the ethics between humans and other organisms, and even more, the ethics of the planet.
