Superbugs (?) Evolutionary mechanism of carcinogenic bacteria based on their genomes

Professor Ichizo Kobayashi

In the life sciences of the 21st century, it is becoming possible to discover the essence of life activities in the explosive accumulation of information such as genome sequences. In this context, not only molecular and cellular biology experiments but also genomic (omics) analysis, bioinformatics, population biology, mathematical modeling and simulation will be utilized. As an example, here are some snapshots of our exploration of the question "Why and how do living things evolve? The subject is bacteria, a relatively simple living organism, and in particular, the bacteria H. pylori, which is famous as a very bad bacteria that causes stomach cancer.

Seeing, knowing, and expressing space

Associate Professor Toru Ishikawa

If we try to define the "city" in which we live, we can say that the physical urban space and the occupants who act within it are important components. Thus, many researchers in various fields are interested in studying the interrelationship between space and people. Specific research topics include how humans perceive and act in space and what methods are available for effectively representing and presenting information about space, which has produced important findings in terms of both theory and application. In this lecture, I would like to introduce the views and approaches of spatial studies, anthropology, and informatics on these points from the perspective of "academic fusion. We hope that the participants will find it interesting to think about space from an interdisciplinary perspective.

Challenges in Introducing Renewable Energy Power Sources from the Perspective of Power Systems

Associate Professor Jumpei Baba
