Educational Activities

Graduate school:Environmental economics

Research Activities

We investigate technical issues related to smart grids.
- Demand side management (1983-2000): We conducted a theoretical study of demand side management (DSM) to solve power load leveling problems, and the basis of DSM implementation for electric power utilities was proposed.
- Electricity market and consignment charge (1990-Present): Theoretical studies are being conducted on the consignment service charge and power trading associated with the deregulation of electric power.
- Control, operation, and planning methods for distributed energy systems (2000-2010): This work included the development of control, operation, and planning techniques for distributed energy systems such as micro-grids utilizing renewable energy.
- Smart grids and demand response (2005-Present): This included the construction and operation of smart grids, which will be the core of the next-generation energy systems for a low-carbon society.

Future Plan

Theoretical research and the social implementation of next-generation energy systems, which utilize renewable energy sources for electricity and demand-side resources, will be conducted in collaboration with the government, local government, and energy industry.

Messages to Students

The students who belong to this laboratory conduct research in the Central Research Institute of the Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI). They can perform advanced and practical research in a wide range of research areas of CRIEPI. In order to benefit from the lectures offered at the Kashiwa campus, they can study in the laboratory there. Our goal is to study next-generation energy systems from the dual perspectives of technology and economics, and to foster talented human resources that will solve global issues.
