A JSPS Research Fellow, Dr. MIYAKE Keita in the Department of Integrated Biosciences won the Outstanding Poster Award at the 17th Annual Meeting of the Society of Genome Microbiology held in Kisarazu City, Chiba, from March 8 to 10, 2023.

Awarded Presentation:

Plasmid-mediated adaptation of Acaryochloris marina MBIC 11017 to the orange light environments
Keita Miyake, Tomonori Kashimoto, Ryosuke Hasama, Mayuko Sato, Kiminori Toyooka, Yu Kanezaki, Wataru Iwasaki, Rei Narikawa

In this study, we observed and analyzed the light responses of the oxygen-evolving photosynthetic cyanobacteria Acryochloris marina MBIC 1101 under orange light for an extended period, and incubated strains that can adapt to growth under the orange light. The genome analysis revealed that the plasmid copy number is controlled during the photoacclimation process, and also particular genetic regions were migrated by integration and re-separation of plasmids.

Message from Awardee:

I am honored to have my research on light adaptation mechanisms by plasmids recognized at the Annual Meeting of the Society of Genome Microbiology. Encouraged by this award, I will continue to push ahead with my research and publish a paper on it.
