The Graduate Program in Sustainability Science – Global Leadership Initiative (GPSS-GLI) of the University of Tokyo now organizes the present symposium to start a voyage to seek such knowledge, wisdom and values, especially in Asia and Africa. As current global governance and economy systems have been seriously challenged, indigenous knowledge, wisdom and values must be pursued more closely and carefully. Asia and Africa are very complex in terms of nature and culture, and can be a treasure box of diverse knowledge, wisdom and values that would help developing new sustainability concepts. We hope that the present symposium will facilitate discussions among participants into such a direction so that the outcome can provide useful assets for sustainability education at higher education levels.
