The Graduate School of Frontier Sciences offers four selection procedures for those who wish to enroll in the doctoral program.
1. General Entrance Examination
2. Special selection for applicants with overseas education
3. Special Selection for Working Adults (For those who wish to enter the university while working at a company, government office, or organization)
4. Special selection with scholarship

Those who fall under this category should select and take the "General Entrance Examination". No other selection method can be chosen.

Special Selection for applicants with overseas education

Applicants who fall under this category may choose to take either the "General Entrance Examination" or the "Special Selection for applicants with overseas education". For details on the "Special Selection for applicants with overseas education", please click here

*Some Departments do not offer "Special Selection for applicants with overseas education". In that case, please take the "General Entrance Examination".

Special Selection with Scholarship

Applicants who fall into the "Special Selection with Scholarships" category in the flowchart and meet the eligibility requirements for applying to each scholarship granting institution may select this selection method to take the examination.
Students are recommended to enroll using this selection process, as it guarantees financial assitanceduring the enrollment.

The scholarship programs you can apply for depend on the major you wish to enroll in. Please click here for more information.

  1. Japanese Government Scholarships : Embassy Recommendations (all majors, GPSS-GLI)
  2. Japanese Government Scholarship : University Recommendation (all majors, GPSS-GLI)

The following four scholarship programs can be applied for at the same time as the "Special Selection for applicants with overseas education" exam applications.

  1. WINGS-PES Incentive Grant (all majors, GPSS-GLI) (only applicable to UTSIP Kashiwa participants)
  2. Honorary Scholarship and Reservation Program (only for majors that do not require a written exam and only have a document screening for the "Special Selection for applicants with overseas education" or "General Entrance Examination")
  3. The University of Tokyo Fellowship
  4. Project to develop high-level human resources to lead the Green Transformation (Applications are due about 3 months before entering the doctoral program.)

*If you have applied for a scholarship from your own government and wish to obtain a Certificate of Intended Acceptance issued by the university, please take the "Special Selection for applicants with overseas education". Official certificates will be issued only to those who have taken and passed the "Special Selection for applicants with overseas education" or "General Entrance Examination".

*People who are in the process of applying to various programs such as JICA long-term training programs are also required to take the "Special Selection for applicants with overseas education" or "General Entrance Examination".

*If there is no scholarship that meets your eligibility requirements, you will have to take the "Special Selection for applicants with overseas education" or "General Entrance Examination" and search for a scholarship after entering the school.
