Educational Activities
Postgraduate school: Ocean Industrial Science and Technology, Underwater Robotics Technology
Research Activities
Research and Development of Ceramic Pressure Vessels
To access the deep sea, countermeasures to the large increase in water pressure and underwater weight are necessary. Conventional high strength steel or titanium alloy have shown their limitations, and new materials are required. Thus, methodologies of engineering fine ceramics are under research.

Research on Recovery System of Deep Sea Mineral Resources
Vast energy resources and various mineral resources, including rare metals and rare earth metals, are lying on the deep sea floor or beneath the sea floor. However, a recovery system has been developed for only petroleum. These resources are of vital importance for societal and industrial subjects. Therefore, research is being conducted on how to collect them efficiently and with minimum effect on the deep sea environment. This research includes overall recovery systems and also each component of the systems.

Future Plan
The laboratory is currently developing basic technology for exploring the new world of the deep sea floor and under the sea floor. Using these technologies, we are trying to lead discoveries of various natural phenomena in these area as well as vitalization of industrial activities using deep sea natural resources.

Messages to Students
People expect a bright future by looking upward. However, seeing the sea/sea floor/below the sea floor requires us to look down. There, a vast new world spreads with more unknowns than space development. This new world stimulates our scientific pursuit of knowledge. It also has abundant resources to vitalize industrial activities. It is really a world of treasures. Everything depends on your ability to face the challenge. Let's face it together.
