The deciphering of the human genome has opened a new page in the health and welfare of humanity. Driven by the goal of translating the rapid advances of genome science and other biosciences into revolutionary healthcare, the Department of Medical Genome Sciences pursues research in tailored therapy, genome-based drug discovery, regenerative medicine, gene therapy, proteome analysis, model organism creation, and other fields that make up 21st century medical science.
As it is our desire to promote active interchange of personnel and knowledge between bioscience and medical science, we welcome students who want to become bioscientists with a spirit of adventure and a global perspective that allows them to take a bird's-eye view of the life sciences while freely roaming across other disciplines. In order to help such students achieve that objective, we provide not only education in bioscience and medical science, but also a variety of other learning opportunities, including hands-on training at the frontlines of advanced medicine where bioscience is put to actual use, and instruction in intellectual property management. We are certain that graduates of our program will go on to blaze a path to the future for post-genome research and industries, not just in Japan, but across the globe.
We also desire to make our department a leading center of education and research for the new genome-based biomedical sciences, and in doing so, strongly support the vitalization of biotech industries and the promotion of public health and welfare.
