High field magnets are the key technology to the most advanced machines, such as high energy particle accelerators, magnetically levitated trains, nuclear fusion reactors, etc. The recent progress in magnet technology has enabled researchers to obtain high magnetic fields of 10 Tesla or above even in ordinary laboratories without cryogenic systems supplying liquid helium. As a result, applications of high magnetic fields are now studied in much more extensive areas of science and technology than ever before. We are working in the following areas by collaborating with the Tsukuba Magnet Laboratory in Tsukuba City, providing us with world level magnets including a 35 Tesla hybrid magnet, a 920 MHz NMR magnet, etc.:

  1. Magnet technology
Design of magnetic fields on demand
  2. Materials science
Control of microstructures of metals, ceramics and polymers
Crystal growth in high magnetic fields
    Magnetically induced phase transformations
  3. Processing
    Magnetic separation and chromatography
Magnetic levitation process for contamination-free production of materials

All these areas are still quite young, evolving day by day. We believe these arenew frontiers that surely deserve the challenges by young people who love science.
