About the electricity system
When you use power
When you use electricity for the first time after you move into your apartment, please follow the procedure below:
If you don't have any power after you go through this procedure, please contact to the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) office near your house.
- Turn "ON" the Ampere breaker switch.
- Turn "ON" the Leakage circuit breaker.
- Turn "ON" the fuseless circuit breaker switch. (For a fuse circuit breaker, close the cover.) You will get power.
If you have an electric water heater, please advise TEPCO in advance.
After your power is turned on, please fill out an Open Account Application Form for electricity with all of the required information.
The application form will be the contract for your usage of electricity.
If you can't find the Open Account Application Form at your new apartment, please contact TEPCO.
You can also open your account by Internet. (Only Japanese)
Electric voltage rates are different on the western side and eastern side of Japan. Western Japan: 100 volts 60 hertz. Eastern Japan: 100 volts 50 hertz. The Kashiwa/Nagareyama area is located in the eastern side of Japan.
Some electronic products are designed to be used for a specific voltage rate. These appliances may be unusable with a different electric voltage rate.
If you use many electric items at the same time, the total amperes may exceed the amperage you have available with your contract, and the ampere breaker switch will shut off. In that case, turn off the power of a few of these electric appliances in use, and then reset the ampere breaker switch to the "ON" position.
If you want to increase your ampere in your contract, contact the nearest TEPCO office to arrange to change to a larger ampere breaker (free of charge). With this modification, your basic monthly electricity fee will be higher.
You can also inquire with an authorized electrician about changing your ampere.

How to pay the bill for electricity.
Take the bill you received by mail to the bank, post office or convenience store, and pay before the due date.
Also, you can set up a system so that TEPCO will deduct the exact amount of money to pay the bill every month, automatically, from your bank or post office account.
