Mr. Xia Fei, a master's course student in the Department of Integrated Biosciences, GSFS, won the Best Student Poster Award at the eDNA Society International Meeting 2023 held in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture from May 17-19, 2023.

Awarded Research:
Environmental mRNA-seq of Xenopus laevis and Gasterosteus aculeatus
Fei Xia, Jiwei Yang, Yuanyu Wang, Yihan Ma, Susumu Yoshizawa, Asano Ishikawa, and Wataru Iwasaki

Environmental DNA technology is a technology to effectively acquire information on organisms existing in an ecosystem by analyzing a very small amount of DNA contained in water samples derived from the environmental water, is gathering attention in recent years. Mr. Xia aims to develop this technology into Environmental RNA (eRNA) technology that enables analysis of non-invasive functional gene expression by a small amount of RNA. This research revealed that the phylogenetically distant model organisms have similar gene compositions of mRNA, which they release in the environmental water.

Message from the Awardee
I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who supported me. I will continue to devote myself to cultivating eRNA research fields.
